Having squared, rounded and compressed the Netherlands, of course I had to fold it, too. Took me a while to figure out how to work with shadows – in the end I fell back on an old cartographers trick, as seen on the cover of the book ‘On the Map’ that I have ordered and will soon be reading. ‘Why the world looks the way it does’ – who could resist? It has a map on its cover where country boundaries are accented with two see-throug contour lines, one dark, one lighter. This I adopted for the GIF below. Quite like the way it’s turned out :)
