Been walking a lot these last few weeks – working towards the goal of being able to walk 20 km in a day. Which translates to five hours on the hoof! As I’ve been having a lot of problems with my feet, it is a miraculous feeling to be able to walk without pain.

We’re following a river at present, first named Rijn, has become Lek, will become Nieuwe Waterweg – why we make a river change names beats me. The idea is to go all the way to Hook of Holland. Th pics I post here are postcard worthy, are they not? These houses are the only ones in the area that are impervious to flooding, as they are built from dike level up. All the other houses we saw from above, meaning that we look down on their roofs and also meaning that they will flood completely when the dike breaks.
