Went to the van Gogh museum in Amsterdam yesterday – to think I’d never visited their permanent exhibition! Some of his works were like thunderbolts – I’m still reeling. So so so much better to see them in real life, up close.

Vincent is famous for his paintings, but he was a great draughtsman, too, Somehow I’d never appreciated how much his drawing informs his painting.

Went to the Amsterdam public library and took out a tome on van Gogh’s life and another one on his drawings. Will be gorging myself on Vincent this easter time!
